What are Aqua Aerobics?

Aqua aerobics, also known as Aquacise or Aquafit, utilises routines similar to those you would often see down at your local gym, with jogging, body twists, leg kicking, arm movements and many other dance type movements involved. One key benefit of working in this environment is that the buoyancy of the water will put less strain on your joints and muscles, so is a great exercise program for those who find working out painful on a solid gym floor, or if you struggle to move around easily.

This type of workout is a great cardiovascular workout as well as helping to strengthen the body, as the water will offer far more resistance than that of air. Another key benefit is that this resistance applies in both directions, so as you push and pull against it, you are actually working two muscle groups as opposed to one. So! with the same effort applied, you actually get twice the benefit. Cool eh!

What is Aqua Circuits?

Aqua circuit routines are pretty much based around the routines you would find in any standard gym workout. Programs can be based around high intensity interval training, otherwise known as HIIT, with intense bouts of exercise followed by short periods of rest. Accessories such as ankle weights and specialised floats are also used to help with balance as well as focus on specific target areas of the body.

What is the Best Sound System for Aqua Aerobics?

Considering the environment, the proximity to the water and any potential humidity issues, (an in-door swimming pool for example) a portable sound system that will operate via an internal battery would come highly recommended.

As a starting point, check out the 12” & 15” versions of the QTX QX-Series speakers and also the LD Systems Road buddies, as these units which are also mains powered, can power themselves from an internal 12-volt battery, offering anywhere up to 5 hours of continuous use between charges whilst offering no risk to life, an electrical shock for example.

With no power cable to consider, re-positioning or adjusting the coverage of the speaker is very easy and straight forward. Then when it’s time to go home, easily transported into storage out of the humidity of the pool area, which if left for any length of time in these high humidity environments (chlorine etc!) can corrode and permanently damage internal and external components such as volume controls and laser heads on CD players, potentially turning all your expensive sound equipment into scrap!

What do I need to look out for when buying a sound system for Aqua Aerobics?

As previously stated, we would always highly recommend a battery powered speaker solution, which is mainly for health and safety reasons. We would also advise for larger class numbers a secondary satellite speaker to link to your main system, as many health clubs and leisure centre swimming pools will be large, noisy and very echoey spaces. This will sometimes make it extremely difficult to hear instructions clearly, especially for those at the back of your class with just the single speaker.

Some instructors may try to get away with using just the single speaker, but this usually means that the system will be driven far too hard and loud, creating an unpleasant distorted sound as well as the instructors having to constantly address feedback (that horrible screeching feedback noise) that always sounds so unprofessional. Using the two units together will offer improved sound coverage as well as giving you the opportunity to reduce your overall system volume levels, thus reducing the risk of distorting the sound of your music and more importantly! lessening the risk of that nasty, ear-piercing feedback from your microphone.

If your system needs to be on a more permanent basis, please visit our installations website www.musicgearinstallations.co.uk, or contact one of our installation’s specialists for advice, as there are some pitfalls you will need to avoid when operating any sound system in this type of environment, A friendly chat with one of our specialists is always highly advisable first!

How to Avoid Losing Class Members due to ‘cheap’ Unmotivating Sound Quality?

Your sound system will have a major role to play in engaging and motivating all of your class. Having a better-quality sound experience with plenty of energy will make your workouts much more fun and rewarding whilst working your class harder without them actually realising it. Hopefully taking time and selecting the system that’s right for you will help you to stand out from the competition, with a better chance of gaining new members as well as retaining all that you have at present.
